As time goes on, however, this oil can begin to build up inside of the engine, which can lead to unwanted debris and dirt.

An oil change is designed to combat this erosion. It will replace the old oil and filter inside your engine. All traces of dirt will be cleaned out, and your vehicle will be back in business. 

When Is It Time to Change the Oil?

Experts suggest changing your vehicle’s oil every 5,000 to 7,500 miles. In between these increments, you should always be on the lookout for any signs which indicate it’s time for a change. These instances can include:

• Burnt smell—Do you detect a burning smell coming from the engine of your vehicle? If so, that may mean your engine is lacking in oil, and it’s time to schedule an appointment.
• Dark or dirty oil—Remove the dipstick and examine the color of your engine’s oil. If it’s amber in color, you’re good to go. If it looks dark and almost black, it needs to be changed.
• Oil warning light—When oil pressure is low, most vehicles will display a warning light to your dashboard in the shape of an oil can. This light indicates it’s time to schedule service.
