Ram 1500 vs Chevy Silverado: Which Has More Power & Efficiency?

While both the new Ram 1500 and the Chevy Silverado offer some compelling engines, only one can take the cake.

The Chevy Silverado’s base engine is a 4.3L EcoTec3 V6 engine, while the Ram 1500’s standard is a 3.6L Pentastar® V6 engine. Check the chart below to see how their base trims stack up in other areas:

16 city/21 highway MPG

As you can see here, the Ram 1500’s 20-point horsepower increase provides superior drivability. The Ram 1500’s added fuel efficiency is an advantage, too, allowing drivers to take longer trips without the need to stop and refuel.

The Ram 1500 also offers a 6.2L Supercharged HEMI® V8 SRT® engine, which clocks in at a whopping 702 horsepower with 640 lb-ft of torque. The Chevy Silverado’s strongest engine, the 6.2L EcoTec3 V8, offers 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque.

In terms of towing capabilities, these two models are relatively evenly matched. When properly equipped, both models can tow more than six tons of weight. The Ram 1500 also provides enhanced efficiency, thanks to its standard Class-Exclusive eTorque Mild Hybrid System. This system is something you won’t find in the Chevy Silverado.

Ram 1500 with RamBox® Cargo Management System

Ram 1500 vs Chevy Silverado: Bed Capacity

The Ram 1500 and Chevy Silverado each provide ample storage space, but the 2021 Ram’s cargo bed can do so much more than carry your stuff.

The Ram’s available multifunction tailgate doors are split 60/40, so that you don’t have to reach over the tailgate to get to your camping gear or worksite tools. This feature also enables easy access when you have a trailer attached. Unfortunately, the Chevy Silverado does not offer this kind of split on its trims.

Additionally, the Ram 1500 offers the available RamBox® Cargo Management System, which provides drainable, lockable, weatherproof storage bins on both sides of the cargo bed, in addition to a 115-volt auxiliary outlet. You’ll be able to store anything you want in these bins, including iced drinks, tools, and electronic devices. The Chevy Silverado doesn’t offer a comparable storage system.

RAM 1500 Interior Space

Ram 1500 vs Chevy Silverado: Which Has More Space?

Trucks are great for long drives, and perhaps nothing is more essential for these lengthy trips than a spacious and comfortable interior cabin. Luckily, the Ram 1500 has got you covered.

Let’s start with the Ram 1500’s roomy interior dimensions in its Crew Cab, which include:

  • Rear legroom: 45.2 inches
  • Rear shoulder room: 65.7 inches
  • Front hip room: 63.4 inches
  • Rear hip room: 63.4 inches

With these measurements, the whole crew will have plenty of room to stretch out and relax. In the Chevy Silverado, the driver and front passenger get 61.18 inches of hip room. As for those in the back, they will receive 43.4 inches of legroom, even with the biggest cab option.

RAM 1500 Interior Technology

Ram 1500 vs Chevy Silverado: Connectivity & Entertainment

In today’s modern world, technology is everywhere you look. Now, thanks to the innovations of the Ram 1500, it’s also inside of your truck.

At the center of Ram’s infotainment system is the optional Uconnect® 12.0 NAV on an outstanding 12-inch touchscreen display that includes split-screen capability. Chevy offers navigation features on its available touchscreen display, too, but its optional display is seven inches on the base model, making directions less easy to read.

That’s not all. The Ram 1500 also features high audio upgrade possibilities, like its optional Harman Kardon® Premium Audio System, featuring 19 speakers and 900 watts of power. The Chevy Silverado’s available Bose® Premium Sound System comes with seven speakers.

RAM 1500 Rebel Towing

Ram 1500 vs Chevy Silverado: Technology

When it comes to technology, both trucks offer modern features that help keep you and your cargo safe. Both pickup trucks offer advanced available camera systems that provide a 360-degree view of your surroundings. This is essential for hitching the trailer with ease and maneuvering your truck into the garage at the end of a day on the worksite.

The Ram 1500 gives the option to add a Trailer Reverse Steering Control with a Trailer Steering knob conveniently located in the center stack. This handy feature eases trailer reversing by allowing you to control the trailer’s direction with the knob while the system controls your steering wheel. Ram couldn’t have made it any easier to hitch a trailer.

With the Chevy, you’ll just have the camera system to assist you in maneuvering the trailer in the right direction.

Ram 1500 vs Chevy Silverado: Which Truck Is Your Favorite?

Now that you’re familiar with both the 2021 Ram 1500 and the 2021 Chevy Silverado, it’s time to choose.

Based on the specs and features mentioned above, we think that choice should be the Ram 1500. If you agree, stop by Collierville CDJR to take the Ram 1500 for a test drive around the Collierville, Memphis, and Germantown, TN, areas, today.
