When it comes to full-size SUVs, there are a few character traits that folks look for. These include the space to fit the entire crew, the technology to stay connected and entertained, and the power to get you to your destination efficiently.

Picture this: You’re headed to nearby Shelby Farms Park for a day of outdoor fun. How will you keep both the kids and adults entertained along the way?
Well, if you own a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee, you could be jamming out to your favorite tunes through its available Harman Kardon® Premium Audio System, complete with a 10-inch subwoofer and 19 high-performance speakers. The 4Runner’s available audio system only includes 15 speakers, making it harder to hear your music throughout the cabin.
Plus, your audio preferences can be controlled through Jeep’s optional Uconnect® 4C NAV and 8.4-inch touchscreen display. Not only is Jeep’s user interface a breeze to utilize, but the larger screen also makes things easier to view, thus keeping your focus on the road ahead. As for 4Runner drivers, they’ll have to settle for a standard 8-inch touchscreen display.

SUVs are known for their spacious accommodations, and the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee doesn’t disappoint, particularly when compared to that of its fellow SUV, the Toyota 4Runner.
This is most noticeable when looking at the second row of these vehicles. For starters, the 4Runner only provides 32.9 inches of second-row legroom, whereas the Cherokee provides a much larger 38.6 inches of rear legroom. Rear headroom is roomier, too, with 39.2 inches in Jeep’s second row compared to 38.6 inches of headroom in the second row of the 4Runner.
However, passengers aren’t the only things you can bring along for the ride. In fact, the Grand Cherokee has lots of space for whatever the day should require. Keep everything nice and tidy with the standard cargo tie down hooks or the available cargo net.
The 4Runner also offers an available cargo net, however, it does not come standard with tie down hooks.

Finally, we’ve come to the engine. It’s one of the most crucial components of any vehicle. As it happens, the Grand Cherokee offers not one, not two, not three, but four unique engines to choose from. Let’s check them out:
How many engines does Toyota offer with the 4Runner? Unfortunately, just one. A 4.0L V6 that only brings 270 horsepower—significantly less than the base engine of the Grand Cherokee.
After reading our comparison of the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee vs. Toyota 4Runner, we’ve found our favorite. With plenty of space, lots of tech, and ample engine configurations, the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee is the winner in our book.
