Towing Capacity

When hauling materials to a jobsite, or taking the family trailer out into the open world, you need a truck that can handle the heaviest of loads. This is one of the advantages the Ram 1500 has over the Toyota Tundra.

With 12,750-lb max towing capacity thanks to a 5.7L HEMI® V8 engine, the Ram is able to handle more compared to the Tundra, which has a max towing capacity of 10,200 pounds. So, no matter what you need to haul, the Ram 1500 can take it on.

Powerful Engines

To go along with heavy-duty towing, you need an engine with the kind of brute strength that would make the Incredible Hulk crumble in fear. This is another distinct advantage the Ram 1500 has over the Tundra, as the Ram features a whopping five different engines you can choose from, as opposed to one for the Tundra:

• 5.7L HEMI® V8 engine with class-exclusive eTorque Mild Hybrid Technology System—This engine gets up to 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque.
• 5.7L HEMI® V8 engine—The classic Ram engine offers the same specs as the above, but with 11,610 pounds of maximum towing capacity.
• 3.6L Pentastar® V6 engine with eTorque—This engine uses advanced technology to make it powerful and efficient. It gets up to 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque with a 7,730-lb max towing capacity.
• 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 engine—This engine has a max towing capacity of 12,560 pounds and gets up to 260 horsepower with 480 lb-ft of torque.
• 6.2L Supercharged HEMI® V8—This is the most powerful engine you can get in a Ram truck.* This unbelievably powerful engine can get up to 702 horsepower with 650 lb-ft of torque. It can also haul nearly 20,000 pounds.

The Tundra’s engine, featured in all their trims, is a 5.7L Aluminum i-Force V8 that gets up to 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque. If you like to have choices in terms of your engine, then the Ram 1500 stands much taller over the Tundra.

Smart Towing Technology

Mostly, new vehicles are equipped with technology features that allow you to make calls, send texts, listen to music, and more without lifting a finger. What about a truck that can do all of that, plus do it for towing purposes? 

That’s where the Ram 1500 comes in. With Trailer Tire Pressure Monitoring, Trailer Light Check, and trailer-tow power-fold mirrors with surrounding view cameras, you’ll never have to worry about anything you’re hauling. The Ram 1500 also offers Trailer Reverse Steering Control, allowing you to control your tailer when you need to back up while the system controls your steering wheel.

By comparison, the Tundra does not offer these features. However, both vehicles offer blind-spot monitoring, so you’ll be able to see everything around you at all times.
